720p for the casual movies, but 1080p movies with great CGI...

The only problem I have is that mp4 files played via my TV become out of sync (audio). I have to convert them to mkv to correct the problem. Does anyone know why mp4 files do this? Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Have you tried using the VLC media player? I use VLC if I need subtitles. I can't get subtitles to work with Windows Media Player.

Hi lumberjack, I have various players (including VLC) on my computer and the mp4 files play fine. However, I prefer to watch movies on my TV as my sofa is a lot more comfortable ;-) That's when the mp4 file's audio will become out of sync. I have a Mac, so I don't use Windows Media Player.

When you say via my TV, I am assuming you are operating a computer and sending the signal to your TV with a cable.

1) Try adding additional buffering. "You Can do it in VLC and Media Player"
2) VLC does a much better job handling movies.
3) Check your CPU operation to see if it is throttling back. "Due to overheating" power settings can sometimes be used to give a higher threshold.
4) Check to see if your CPU is maxing out from too many background processes.

Assuming you are using windows you can check performance in task manager.

I run a dual core Pentium, 1.73Ghz, 2 gigs of ram and windows 10 pro 32bit, with no problems. I only use it for music and video streaming or downloading. I also have Norton running at all times.
I run VGA and sound to my TV and use a Bluetooth set of speakers, keyboard and mouse.

Hope that helps... The Capt

Hi The Capt. Thanks for your response. I actually mean I save the mp4 files onto a pen drive, plug it into my TV and play them direct. MKV and AVI files are fine, they always play with no problems, but mp4's are a mixed bag (more often out of sync than not). Like I say, I just convert the mp4 to a MKV and it works fine. Thanks again.
